Expectations of Instructors & Administrators

Instructor Qualifications & Commitments

  • Be a professing Christian and model Christ-like character.
  • Pass a criminal background check before beginning service.
  • Agree to and sign RSHA's Statement of Faith.
  • Be willing to repent and grow when correction is needed.

Classroom Readiness & Professionalism

  • Arrive at least 10 minutes before your class begins.
  • Commit to teaching for the full 30-week academic year.
  • Have at least one substitute-ready lesson plan prepared; add more as needed.
  • Maintain high standards of personal and professional conduct.
  • Deliver high-quality, well-prepared instruction.
  • Attend all required trainings (three 30-minute sessions during academy days).
  • Be open to classroom observation and feedback.

Teaching Philosophy & Student Interaction

  • Promote respectful, non-punitive classroom management.
  • Treat students, parents, and staff with dignity and grace.
  • Avoid heavy-handed discipline; collaborate on solutions to challenges.
  • Maintain a visible presence—be the "eyes and ears" of the academy during your time on campus.

Curriculum, Materials & Course Planning

  • Develop proficiency and genuine interest in your subject.
  • Find appropriate curriculum and assignments for your class.
  • Seek leadership review for new curriculum or materials when in doubt.
  • Submit a full syllabus with detailed grading rubric for core academic classes.
  • For enrichment/non-core classes, clearly outline expectations to students and parents (pass/fail or skill-based).
  • Submit a detailed supply list tied to any materials fee.
  • Be ready to show receipts; material fees should not exceed 20% over actual costs.

Parent & Student Collaboration

  • Partner with parents and students to encourage success and resolve struggles.
  • Address academic or behavioral issues with care, clarity, and respect.

Faith & Example

  • Strive to be an example of Christ-like actions, attitudes, and motivations.
  • “For by grace you have been saved through faith… it is the gift of God.” — Ephesians 2:8–9 (ESV)

Instructor Absence

  • If you must miss a class, arrange for a qualified substitute.
  • Provide your sub with a ready-to-teach lesson plan.
  • Notify leadership as soon as possible—preferably the day before or by 7:30 AM the day of.
  • Use phone or text for time-sensitive communication (email may not be checked in time).
