Global Food - World Geography & Cuisine

Pack your bags—we're traveling the world without ever leaving the classroom! This engaging, year-long World Geography course takes students on an immersive journey across every major region of the globe as they explore the people, places, cultures, climates, economies, governments, and physical landscapes that shape our world. Through maps, current events, collaborative projects, and hands-on activities, students will discover how geography influences history, culture, politics, and everyday life while developing a deeper understanding of our interconnected world.

Course Overview:

  • Explore the World:
    Travel through every major region of the globe, studying continents, countries, physical geography, cultures, governments, economies, natural resources, and environmental issues.
  • Develop Geographic Thinking:
    Strengthen map-reading, geographic reasoning, and critical thinking skills while learning how geography shapes history, politics, economics, and culture.
  • Interactive, Hands-On Learning:
    Participate in collaborative projects, research activities, presentations, current events, review games, and classroom discussions that bring world geography to life.
  • Taste the World Cultural Kitchen:
    Experience each region through hands-on cooking and baking activities featuring authentic recipes such as naan, empanadas, baklava, pavlova, and other traditional dishes. These culinary experiences connect geography, agriculture, history, and culture while building practical kitchen skills.
  • Prepare Before Class:
    Students complete assigned readings, guided notes, videos, and other coursework at home so classroom time can focus on discussion, collaboration, projects, and engaging hands-on experiences rather than lectures.

Since West Salem has NEVER CHARGED for the use of their facility (i.e. no rent, utilities, water, internet, or paper product fees; ONLY a nominal cleaning fee), there will be no facility or maintenance fees required. In order to respect your time and resources, we plan to offer regular lunches for a small charge with all proceeds going to West Salem Baptist Church as our love offering to them for such a generous gift.
