Greek 1 is designed for students with little or no prior experience with the Greek language. Students will begin by learning the Greek alphabet, foundational vocabulary, and essential grammar while developing the skills needed to read both Classical and Koine Greek. Using a unified approach, students will encounter selections from Greek antiquity, the Septuagint, the Greek New Testament, and the writings of the early Church Fathers. Translation work is introduced early in the course to cultivate confidence and foster a love for one of history's most influential languages.
Primary textbook used is Introduction to Classical and New Testament Greek: A Unified Approach by Michael Bohler (ISBN: 9781949822021). Additional handouts and classroom materials may be provided throughout the year.
